Studio
One author covers product, code, interface and image. No handover between departments, and no drift between what is designed and what ships.
Before building management systems, someone had to need one.
The path
- 01
A pasta factory and a pizzeria of his own: production, input costing, purchasing and suppliers, sale price and margin. The full circuit of a consumer business, with his own till inside it.
- 02
Contact centres and a roadside assistance network: front line for vehicles involved in accidents, coordinating resources with the customer on the worst day of their week. Promoted on performance to supervisor for high-end vehicle warranties and for complex cases requiring a mobile workshop.
- 03
More than twenty years of visual and sound craft. Music production since the age of sixteen, with Ableton Live and Max for Live — which is signal-oriented visual programming: building a tool that does not exist because no commercial one does exactly what is needed.
- 04
That way of looking became a system in the Quality and Innovation department of a company building embedded software on its own hardware: requirements discovery with every department, documentation of what had never been written, QA testing of software running on internally designed hardware, and maintenance of the quality management system under ISO 9001:2015, audits included.
Milestones
Hospitality and retail
More than a decade running consumer-product businesses: in some cases as the owner, in others in charge of the whole operation.
Support, supervision and crisis
Roadside assistance, technical support for internet services, and commercial development of institutional agreements at a university.
Quality and Innovation
Semi-senior analyst at an embedded software company: internal process automation, QA testing, documentation and an ISO 9001:2015 management system.
Entropy and Suite PYMES
An in-house product: a management system with an online store, designed, built, documented and audited end to end.
Disciplines
Software
Full-stack development, payment and invoicing integrations, process automation and language-model integration.
Web
Interface design and implementation, accessibility and performance. The interface is part of the product, not a layer on top.
Process
Discovery, documentation, QA testing and internal auditing under ISO 9001:2015.
Photography and video
Studio photography and filming, and audiovisual pieces for distribution.
Sound
Music production and sound design, with more than fifteen released records.
Max for Live
Programming custom instruments and effects. Building the tool that does not exist is the same reflex that solves a management system.
Elsewhere
The hard question first: did the business make money last month, or does it look like it did?
If the answer is uncomfortable, there is a fifteen-minute conversation worth having. The system is shown running on a demonstration business, and the way the work happens today gets mapped.
